Too Much Water
Ah the predictable snipes of the Farrell-haters who seem to forget world cups are one on defence and goal kicking

Whilst I rate Farrell as a good player, I don't think he's as good an all round fly-half as Ford. And I just don't see Farrell as a significantly better kicker than Ford, as demonstrated by their kick success rate in the Aviva in 14/15; Ford 82% Vs Farrell 81%. If Joseph is not fit to play Wales I'd like to see Slade and Burgess starting in the centre. |

Those that back Farrell over Ford due to his kicking would say he has more range so you'd need to look more into those stats.

Maybe so SPR, but my point was that Farrell is not significantly better than Ford, and certainly not to the extent that his selection would guarantee an extra 3-4 points from the boot every game.

Nelly - My point was Farrell might be if you looked deeper into stats, for example Ford might only kick penalties from 40m or closer while Farrell kicks them from 50m. I don't know whether this is the case as I haven't looked at it.

I can only find "headline" figures (for now at least)... but Ford's penalty success rate in the Aviva was quite a bit higher than Farrell's. We *could* postulate that's due to Farrell attempting longer range penalties; but given he's not (relatively) successful with them it still doesn't guarantee those extra points TMW mentioned on the previous page. They are very closely matched, but for me Ford offers a little bit extra.

Ford is being dropped apparently, not sure why: bbc.co.uk This was the type of analytics I was talking about in terms of kickers: thepowerofgoals.blogspot.co.uk |

10-12-13 of Farrell, Burgess, Barritt according to the scribes. Definite 'stick it up Dean Richards jumper' option for me. If Ford has been punted for poor form, why not Barritt? Nothing wrong wth the stick it up Dean Richard's jumper option by the way, but you also need a ferocious, well drilled pack.... |
