Think there is a definite theme flowing through them though, as 30 of them have either sea, loch or river pictured!

I still don't really understand this, so more questions ...
Can you only get Route of the Day on the day that you upload the route?
Or is there a whole bunker full of route and photos that have been uploaded in the past, any of which Fetch with his amusement arcade crane grabber could pick out?
And if there is a bunker and a grabber, where are all the unpicked photos? Can we upvote them if we like them? (I know the answer to the last one is "no"!)

Synge - Fetch reviews all new routes loaded and make his own personal choice / decision. Which may (or may not) be swayed by the queue of selected but not yet posted.
The first we know, and when you get RotD, and badge, is when the pic/route actually appears. Although he's introduced notifications today.
In recent years the queue seems to have varied between 3-4 weeks to 3-4 months.
From what I've seen, that is.
I suspect Fetch is bang up to date choosing. Publishing is where the delay is because of any others already in the queue.

I think they are selected from routes that are uploaded publicly, at one point there was a whole backlog of pics, hence in June/July? there was a bunch of winter shots, although I think that pile of pictures has diminished now. So to answer the question about being picked on the day of upload its no, it will be a little time later.
