Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

According to the FT a recyclable paper wrapper suitable for factory produced foods has been developed by Nestle. It's just going to be used initially for the Yes bars but they are going to make the technology available to others.

Grow my own has reduced my shopping and is way tastier. Also could use laundry bags as produce bags.

@becca - wonder if Nestle will provide a scheme to take back the wrappers so they can reuse, otherwise councils are often looking for someone else to "buy" the recyclables in bulk as a resource. The reverse vending bottle scheme shows how it can be done: theguardian.com

Tip: if you have a small garden, have fruit trees in large pots. It keeps the tree small due to root restriction and you can manage the birds from thieving ;)

I went to the butcher’s at lunchtime. A bit of a walk from the office but just about doable. He was happy to use my pots and said that several of his customers do.

WA, are your friend's shampoo bars certified? If not, it's illegal for them to sell them. They need to have a cosmetic safety assessment. It's why SS & I don't sell our stuff...because we can't.

Wine Legs - she buys them from a certified seller, and sells them on at a teeny profit (set by the seller) A bit like the Avon lady.

Day 3: Toiletries
What #ZeroWaste #LowCarbon toiletries have you purchased to replace your worn out toothbrush, shaver etc? And have you used your worn out items for anything else?

Incidentally - Being of Oriental descent I've never had to shave :p

Me telling my menfolk what they can and can't use for shaving on waste-reduction grounds would be as inappropriate as them telling me I have to use a Mooncup. Not going there.

We've used bar soap instead of liquid soap on grounds of personal preference for a long time. I bought a particular brand of soap because it had cardboard rather than plastic packaging only to discover that the bar of soap was wrapped in plastic inside the cardboard. And I stopped using deodorant ages several years ago because I wasn't convinced it made any difference to how much I smell.
