I have reservations about the Ecobricks. Yes, it’s great not to have the rubbish strewn around the street or in landfill. But it is suggesting I should fill a plastic bottle with (plastic) rubbish and then build it into a structure. Surely this contaminates the material the structure is made of? That’s mud in some of the pictures.

NJ - not sure what you mean? Eco-bricks have been used to create walls, etc like bricks and mortar. facebook.com If you're concerned about chemicals leaching out into the mud? Would need some empirical study to evaluate the amount that would be leached out. |

Plastic Free Month is here. How about adding an extra challenge and making it a Plastic Free, Low Carbon Challenge?

We've just started making ecobricks. The amount of plastic used to fill a 1 litre bottle is staggering- about half a large binbag. It's not ideal, but it has really reduced our general waste

I just found this on the Bedford Council website. bbcdevwebfiles.blob.core.windows.net its a form to claim back a one off £25 for a purchase of over £50 of cloth nappies, covers and/or laundry service. You need receipts though. I'm not sure if that's any good for you Winelegs. New mums might look to see if their own council does similar. Might go and put this on the pregnancy thread. |

Oh that's great news. I bought some over 2yr ago for our daughter and will be using them for our new born son. I don't have the receipts though, but it's a great incentive for encouraging the use of them

Yeah, I knew about that, but never did it. I did buy some new nappies, but lots were second-hand. In other news, I am being confounded by plastic free lunch options. Our work kitchen offers a variety of lunches to purchase. Today, I gave them a container to put my salad into, and returned my dressing pot from the last time to reuse. They have thrown out the dressing pot and replaced it with another one because the pots are not dishwasherable. They also contacted me to see if they could put my supplied container through the dishwasher otherwise they wouldn't use it. IT WAS CLEAN FFS!!! Insane. |

Ah, hello, can I ask my Q that I asked on podcast thread please? What non-plastic water bottle should I buy? Is stainless steel going to rust? Won't glass break? It's for work, not hiking or anything, but I'd still rather it was reasonably robust! And whatever is recommended I'm then going to lobby Fetch to make one with FE logo on! G |
