Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hi. Can someone recommend me a free QR code generator please? There seem to be lots of similar sites on the internet, but it is hard to work out which one is good.

Thanks

One thing to be aware of is that some QR codes can be temporary i.e. after a set period of time they could end up pointing somewhere else.

For a webpage or something else? For a webpage there is a generator built into Google chrome (mobile at least)

Yes, I’m aware that some can be temporary. Hence wanting a recommendation!

It’s to put on controls for my orienteering club. The code will take you to a website that says ‘please leave me alone’, and give a contact phone number.

As I said, the one built into Chrome on Android gives a proper QR with no redirects, option is under "share" and then QR code:

Gives:

Which correctly decodes to the URL for this page.

Bitly and Adobe both let you set up free codes, they look to be permanent

I think bitly looks like the best solution for me.

Thanks everyone.

Don't forget that bitly a) only works so long as bitly exist, as they redirect via their own URLs, and b) are inherently less trusted. If i scan a QR code and see it points to a random shortened url I don't trust it, it's far to easy to be pointing to something malicious.

Is it a one time thing, that you have a URL that will not change? If so, send me the URL and I can make you a QR code using python.

Got something to say?
