I've been the fortunate recipient of both and queried it before - it usually says in the race information how prizes will be awarded.

Sushi.
Most races I've entered give the Vet the highest value of the 2 prizes and award the other to the next eligible runner.

I kinda think that the other way makes .ore sense but doesn't seem to be the norm.

It messes with my head if the 2nd place V40 goes home with a prize if the 1st place V40 was also the race winner, but I can see how / why it helps spread the prizes around a bit to give out the "higher value" prize.

I just need 18 people in v45 to be ahead of me picking up some other prize and maybe I can walk away with the v45 prize some day :-)

Lol Larkim.

Exactly. If you come in 2 places you should get both prizes.

If I ever came in 2nd V50 (never gonna hapoen) and I got 1st V50 prize because the 1st V50 had won overall 1, 2 or 3 I'd feel inclined to seek them out and give them that prize too as I'd feel a fraud saying I came 1st for age.

[There's more chance I'll win the lottery than win a race prize and I don't even do the lottery]

Seen it going both ways, one prize only or not as the case may be.

As an aside a guy in the club won the Skye half recently & got a huge salmon😀

Never give up hope Sushi. My friend ran/ walked a local 10 miler a few years back for fun and came away with the F60 1st prize as the only age group entrant. Won a much fancier bottle of whisky than I received for 3rd M40.

I didn’t realise that prizes at races were a thing! That might be something to do with my race position!

Carrying this to the extreme ... how many prizes could an over 60 person run away with, if they were really fast?

The open class?

Then potentially the 40+, 50+, and 60+ ?

And controversially, what if that fast 'older' person was female? Just the female classes? (esp if the race organisers had foolishly given bigger/better prizes to the other classes starting with an M)

Anna - did you resolve your problem? Or add some text to your race rules / guide?

About This Thread

Wondering if any RDs can help me or any speedy vet runners who may have found themselves in this situation. If say a vet 40 runner also came in the top 3 of a race would they win both the top 3 prize and the vet 40 prize or just the top 3 prize with the vet 40 prize being allocated to the next eligible runner? TIA
