If the climbs are hard enough Evenepoel is probably the only one that stays with Pogacar. If not, MVDP might actually be able to get a gap on the short steep climb (how does he stay away though)?

Ah yes, I was just seeing MVDP, Pog and Rog. Will be a good race I should think. I'm sure Ben Healy will be attempting to launch some long range attacks too (not that they will be successful, but he is an entertaining rider).

Definitely interested anticipates tomorrow @Chrisull and whether Roglic's role is to cover any semi dangerous anticipator. There's definitely a few strong riders that could win but I get the feeling Pogacar with the Slovenia team will be trying to make the race very hard and make sure it comes down to who's the strongest.

Yeah wonder if someone like Alaphilippe might attempt to get up the road too (given he was trying it all TDF long!). Again not someone I see winning or strong enough to stay with the big names, but strong enough historically that other nations would have to be vigilant.

In my books Pidders is way too strong to be allowed in a break, but doesn't have the power of a Pog or MVDP on the climbs. However he is a great rider, and great riders can take advantage if an opportunity comes their way, but you kind of feel it would need something unusual to open it up for him a bit, but if it does, yeah he can drive it home.

If the weather is like it was today then how about Stevie Williams, Fleche Wallonne style for an outside chance. 2 stage wins in the Tour of Britain as well. Part of me thinks Pidders, along with a lot of the Ineos guys, are having a bit of a confidence crisis at the moment. |

Piddock at his best might (should?) beat MVDP on longer climbs (based on history, MVDP has lost some weight to try and be better here). He's said he isn't at his best though. I think there's a bunch of riders that will want to try and sneak away late if they can be in the lead group and hope the favourites watch each other. The other thing is whether any team is strong enough to really control things early (or even bothers trying) and that could present opportunities. |
