Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sitting out an election or voting third party in an election that was on a knife edge is looking like a really stellar choice now. *slow handclap*

An Arab American group that played a key part in Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is rebranding after the president said the U.S. would turn the Gaza Strip into the “Riviera of the Middle East”.

The group, formerly known as Arab Americans for Trump, would now be called Arab Americans for Peace, chairman Bishara Bahbah said.

It came after Trump earlier this week held a press conference at the White House, where he said the U.S. would take “ownership” of the war-torn territory.

In a press release issued Wednesday by Arab Americans for Peace, the group said its members “appreciate the president's offer to clean and rebuild Gaza” but “take issue with the president's suggestion of taking over Gaza and removing its Palestinian inhabitants.”

It staggers me still that people could choose Trump as the lesser of two evils in anything. But here we are, democracy in the US is on the edge, worker, consumer and environmental protections being stripped away daily, federal gov being hollowed out and the world's poor being abandoned - as widely predicted.

All in less than 3 weeks. Sheesh.

I think Biden and Harris had a responsibility on this. They supported the war for 15 months and no one can say that the ceasefire would have happened if they won (and it's not something they could have promised with any credibility). The group specifically in JB's post may not have been won over by a different stance but many others would have been. On this specific issue, I don't see how it wasn't on Harris and Biden to do more.

Well they have (checks notes) another 205 weeks of Buyer's Remorse before they get even a sniff of a chance at recovering their country from the 💩 that is coming at them.

The odds must *shurely* be on American Democracy being dead by then. History repeating itself. So many opportunities lost, mistakes made, roads not chosen.

Unless they won't be able to vote then democracy will be in tact. Everything that's happened so far is democracy in action. If the election was rerun now, would the result be different. Many people will be happy with what's happening.

If I recall the post election numbers correctly, the Hispanic polling may have further swung away from Trump (reasons for that seem obvious). Nothing else looks especially different yet IIRC.

Interesting reading. Of all the criticisms you can lay at Trump's door, being the crazy dictator people wanted him to be is not one of them - very big approval from his base!

Could be some big tests for democracies elsewhere ahead. Lots of similarly struggling and divided nations plus armies of misinformation and hate bots wedging divisions ever deeper, with populist leaders happy to spring up and cash in.
Here's hoping the UK can hang on to some of its tolerance and kindness.
