Farage has been subject to several assaults in the past and I imagine he gets fairly frequent death threats. I can understand he may be nervous about the possibilities of violence.

Some of his stuff hits the mark, but even when it is I can't get away from the truth of this type of comment.

"Mark Robinson, the controversial and socially conservative Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, made a series of inflammatory comments on a pornography website’s message board more than a decade ago, in which he referred to himself as a “black NAZI!” and expressed support for reinstating slavery, a CNN KFile investigation found."

'Socially conservative"...

He's not perfect, but putting him on a par with Farage is more than a little OTT. All journos at the moment are in the mix for fomenting trouble and creating divisive debates. He's no different.

But his summary of Farage is spot on.

On Starmer and gifts by HIGNFY

instagram.com

Maybe Starmer should ask for gifts to the Treasury instead? Of course £100k wouldn't do much there.

O'Brien's "problem" is that he doesn't subscribe to the brexit cult.

He’s really turned out to be a greedy little grifter. It’s so disappointing, unnecessary and frankly embarrassing.

The right are starting to perk up and get stuck in. I remember Blair/Brown had their feet on the Tories’ throats for months, probably years. Gave them virtually nothing to work with - they didn’t have a clue how to respond. I remember Hague dinning a baseball cap and boasting of drinking 14 points in a ham fisted attempt to match early Blair’s vigour and connection with the youth.

But they have an attack line now, and won’t let up (we didn’t when we had Boris on the run for wallpaper/partygate)

The football box feels entirely right to me. Better that Arsenal pay for the box, recognising that he can't just sit in the stands as the UK PM, than the UK govt end up paying for it. Could he / should he pay for it himself? Maybe, but I hardly think Arsenal FC carries a risk of undue influence over govt policy any more than they would do with him being a lifelong Arsenal fan.

I do agree though more broadly that he's left an attack line open waiting to happen which appeals to both the right and the left. The right grab it as supposed evidence of hypocrisy, whereas the left grab it as evidence that he is "no Jeremy Corbyn".

I'd love to hold the principles that would say turn this stuff down, but I'm not sure I could go that far. "Mr Starmer, we've got Wembley on the line saying they'd like to invite you to the Taylor Swift gig next week. Would you and your family like to go?" "Yes, but please tell them to bill me the market price of the tickets" "They won't take any cash for this" "Oh OK, well say no thanks then, can't have myself portrayed as being in the hands of 'Big Concert Venue'"

Maybe if you've got Sunak's personal level of wealth you can get away with this, but then insist that the govt funds you to fly everywhere in a private helicopter.

Unless someone can draw a clear line of influence through the (mainly football) gifts he's declared, I'm pretty relaxed about it, even if the press get overly excited.
