They actually said last night that they don't want to knock-on doors and speak to people, just deliver leaflets. It might have been the Labour spokesman saying it of the Tories but the Tory stooge didn't deny just said early postal votes meant they used more telephone salesmen instead.

I don't think there's really any contradiction in what jda said. If Labour have moved further to the right, they will conclude they've done the right thing. When they lost in the Uxbridge by election, there was a big reaction to that by both parties.
Anyway I think most of us have thought Labour will win the next election for a while, so it's all about what happens when they get into power now.

We here are in a left-leaning echo chamber. The country is conservative. Historic election results prove that. We are an island race and racism is inherrent, sadly, in many peoples mind. The Brexit referendum result was proof of this; it wasn't all simply a fingers up to the status quo. Blair got in by being centreist. Corbyn didn't (obvs). Let's just hope Starmer can repeat Blair's success at the poles, while still having policies that are palatable to at least a proportion of the left
Whilst I understand and agree with this to a point - I'd argue that the country is much more centrist than conservative. But the Tories would like you to think they are the majority.
The Tories gained only 44% of the vote under Johnson - even with their agreement with UKIP to step back from seats. On a 70% turnout, only 29% of the adult population actually voted for the Tories.
The more progressive parties (I'm including Labour / LibDems / Greens & SNP) took approx 53% of the vote.
FPTP continues to be the problem - get rid of that and we can start to move forwards as a country.

I wouldn’t rule out a back door deal between the Reform wingnuts and the Tories. That would make a difference, but to what effect who knows. Reform voters would, I imagine, have no qualms about voting Tory, particularly if knobbly Nigel gives them a lukewarm endorsement, and the Tories have more or less been camped out on UKIP’s lawn for the last 7 years anyway.
The question is what Reform would get in return. It won’t be pretty, whatever it is.

It would not surprise me if he went back into the Tory tent. That would spell trouble for Labour, at least initially.
If the Tories wheel him out as part of their election campaign that would be even more trouble, because he attracts publicity and headlines like shit attracts flies.
Personally I can’t see Sunak inviting a showboater like Farage onto the team, but he will be pretty desperate now so who knows.

But anyway, I agree that this spectacular defeat will galvanise Tories to redouble their efforts for the fight ahead.
That fight being the next Tory leadership contest.
