How good is this podcast? I just wanted to start a thread of appreciation ![]() All that said I cant listen to it in the car too often as my wife protests…and she is a parkrunner so my feelings wont be universal. I listen via Apple Podcast App but also available many other places: withmenow.libsyn.com |

Listened to it two or three times, wasn't a fan. Probably about five years ago, so maybe I should give it another go.

I've only listened to one episode and that was because Nicola came to our parkrun for Halloween and she was impressed with the effort we made! I then subscribed but haven't listened to more as I just don't have the time.

I find Danny Norman unlistenable - arrogant and smug, with the sort of humour normally associated with sniggering 12 year old boys on the onset of puberty. Which is a shame because Nicola comes across as really lovely and interesting, when she gets a chance to speak, that is.

Listened to it from the start (and a lot of the PRS pod before it) and used to look forward to it as part of my weekly routine. Drifted largely away from it during the Covid period and then only fleeting caught the odd episode here and there since due to fining less time as the episode length began to exponentially increase..! Although I may not agree with all his views (and despite his historical connections to parkrun and his sheer longevity of involvement) I do feel feel that he often offers a 'fair' perspective/argument on many of the topics raised. Found the premise of the pod very useful being a 'tourist' for highlighting potential destinations and I do like the interaction between Danny and Nic-Nic. Met them individually several times at the odd random parkrun and also their 'Pow-Wows' at Dishley, Oaklands and Perry Hall and have found them quite down to earth and approachable off the mic. In fact myself and the missus (Pete & 'Ungrateful' Mel) were interviewed by Danny in the last pod when he was at Battlestead Croft in Burton on Trent 😉 |

It's a bit clique'y for me, but some of the commentary is really good in terms of Danny's take on the various bits of "politics" in parkrun (or at least, in the ones I listened to). In the good old days in its first incarnation I think it was even more heavily imbued with clique'y-ness; the same names would crop up again and again, the various milestone clubs were individual named, the nascent "challenges" of tourism, Cowell club, Frayne (?) etc were all pretty much linked to people that they both seemed to know; I think some of the regulars went on to be HQ employees too? Nic's personal story was hard to hear though and that alone still gives me some warmth towards them. Pretty sure I was listening to it for a few weeks before my home one was launched, in the days when Tom W attended all the inaugurals. Nothing they do has any bad intent behind it and they do like to celebrate the core elements of what parkrun is "properly". But it's not on my podcast playlist, though I would listen if they did ever tourist around to my home event. |

It would be a pretty dull podcast if it wasn't helmed by someone with a passion for the subject and strong opinions! For me that was where "Free Weekly Timed" fell down as Vassos really wasn't so much a parkrun enthusiast as a runner who sometimes did parkrun (and mostly forgot his barcode). As a consequence it lacked much purpose. At least Danny and Nicola have their own cult-ish following for their particular flavour of parkrunning which serves a community who enjoy parkrun "that way" themselves. |

I think Tikka pretty much nails it. I find Danny Norman unlistenable - arrogant and smug, with the sort of humour normally associated with sniggering 12 year old boys on the onset of puberty. Which is a shame because Nicola comes across as really lovely and interesting, when she gets a chance to speak, that is. I tried it for a while, and probably put up with if for longer than it deserved. I even went through a phase of skipping if Danny was on, and listening if he'd been replaced by a guest presenter. I don't miss it. |
