There doesn't seem to be a paddleboarding thread, so I thought I'd start one - it does appear as a category for training, so someone must do it.

I went paddleboarding on Sunday for the very first and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, I've bought a paddleboard!

My daughter's friend and her husband have paddleboards and took her out a few weeks ago, and I said I'd like to have a go. They said ok, so off we went.

I didn't go very far the first time, and couldn't stand up, but the second time I managed it - a bit wobbly, but got better as I carried on.

The biggest faff was constantly changing sides for paddling to go in a (sort of) straight line. Looking at You Tube, it seems I need to master a 'J' stroke. I'll try that next time.

The other thing was, I needed to concentrate on looking forward. I felt I'd fall off if I looked around. I suppose confidence will build with experience.

So we got home Sunday afternoon and my daughter said she was going to buy a board and I should too. Her friend had given her a link to the boards they had, so we ordered two of those. They came today and we're going out again this coming Sunday.

I'll post a few piccies and look forward to hearing tips from you experienced paddleboarders.

HowFar?
Excellent pictures. It looks like a lovely location. There is a kayak and canoe thread, which also involves some paddle boarding. fetcheveryone.com/forum/kayaking-canoeing-thread-51740/

We could have a separate thread if you want Nick. But as HowFar says, we tend to lump it in on Kayak and Cane thread. Looks like a lovely day. I've got the Decathlon cheapie and the Lidl (Mistral) cheapie. Love 'em! :-) G

I went paddle boarding down the river at Stratford upon Avon last year, with an instructor. Loved it, and planned to do more, but so far haven't. Maybe something for when I retire, or maybe just get off my back side to do it more!
