2 things.
1. I used (some of) my 25% tax free lump to kill off my mortgage, which means we can manage on substantially less each month even though we're both still working part time. I'm still drawing down monthly some of the rest of the 25% in total that I'm allowed tax-free for the next few years, before someone changes the rules to tax it again!
2. After a trip to Parque Guel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_G%C3%BCell) outside Barcelona, largely celebrating Gaudi's architectural artistic work, we walked back down into the edge of the city via a bakery where they sold truly massive individual meringues (even I struggled!). The sell them as "Gaudi's Nuts". 'Nuff said. (Both places are worth a visit, BTW.)

[Boring pension stuff ... - I took the tax free element of my FB pension. Oddly if I die, the pension switches to my wife and increases slightly, because that's based on the figures as if I didn't take any cash element. - for my earlier 'collapsed pension' cash sum, now in a pension fund, I've left that as is. My adviser says only to take that cash free sum as drawn down, when/if we consume it. With no travel this year, cancelled US trip, no Oz trip planned yet, we're living within the pension and not touching the invested funds.
End of my boring pension stuff ]
I prefer the big choux pastry ones filled with cream, and chocolate, or ideally the toffee icing. Although chocolate eclairs will do.

The big round choux pastry buns filled with cream are known locally as "Elephant's Foot" buns.
Available in caramel/toffee or chocolate icing.
Oddly, I really like choux pastry without any filling at all!

sorted then
The thing I don’t have is life insurance - should I? Starting now would surely cost a fortune monthly

You could try smoking instead. Reduces your need for a pension too.

I am completely head in sand about pension at the moment. I have a private one from Lloyds from my youth and a work one which I and my company have been putting money into for about 30 years. But not very much money. I need to get my head out of the sand at some point, I guess. :-/

I stopped smoking 30 years ago.
Haha got an email today that with our pay rise meant the pension folk take off more - no gain at the moment but helps later supposedly
