Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That was Run Free?

Bliddy hell, good effort.

Mag65, Contro and I managed to meet for a noisy pint in Scruffy Duffy's. I was also blown away by the support and banter from all on FE during the race.

One idea I had today (yes...whilst out running) was to figure out if Lord Fetch can set up some sort of group email address for those 'Athlete Alert' messages. What I have in mind, is a standard type of email address, to the FE server, that could then handle those incoming emails and then post those runners times on a discussion thread or dedicated race page.

A lot of Fetchies struggled to keep track of us runners as they only know our fetch names (and neither real names nor bib numbers).

Bit of a nerdy project I know, but if anyone thinks its a goer, I'll Fmail the Fetchmeister to see what he can do.

Well done Elastic Orange by the way, and welcome home.

Thanks Rick.....good to be back!

BTW, did anyone have a different finish time to their Athlete Alert finish time?.....I was speaking to a friend in the UK whose email I'd set up and they told me my finish time - but when I went to have my medal engraved they told me my "official" time was a whole 9 minutes quicker - yeh!!!!!! :-)

Awwwww.....I really feel for you contro - I know how close that must have felt - but hey, you now have all the fun of doing it next time ;-) Very well done though - a stupendous effort (I wish I could run THAT fast, but I'm basically a lazy person and so it would probably have killed me.....plus I've only been running for 1 year, so I don't think I could really have done better given this was my first Marathon!!)....

Bizzare though it seems, the last Athlete Alert time, reverted to the 'Gun, or Clock' time but only for the last mile!

Presumably it took you the 9 mins to cross the start line?

I had a right paddy as when I phoned home, Mrs O'S believed that I'd taken a whole 11mins longer than what my Garmin had recorded. Also a mate of mine (who was in the crowd, but getting updates on his Blackberry) figured I had pulled up, as my last mile was over twice as long as ever other.

Very odd.

How did your mate get mile splits RO's? i thought the only splits were at each 5K, meaning that your last one would have been at 40K, then at 42 when you finished.

Yes, it was bizzare - I hadn't seen the alerts, only been told the final time by my friend - which had actually taken me 3 minutes into a new hour - so you can imagine my delight when I found out I was UNDER it instead!......I guess the difference must have been the delay in getting over the starting line as I was certainly out at the back....my Garmin, however, put me 20 mins quicker still than my "official" time, but I guess that must have been due to the fact that I stopped to take pics; chat to my hubby & daughter and go to the loo! (I have the Auto Pause function on, so the time would be only the "actual" running time I guess....).

But, hey, I'm happy I got over the finish line and could walk still - no aches and pains :-)

...and I can't count either - it was actually 11 mins different - hey, every minute counts, right? :-))

Hmm someone's been talking! Anyway I accompanied two very large ladies for a little while - probably 3-4 times my waist size. Was totally impressed that both entered, one got to about 10 miles and was flagging (don't think she made it)

Am still waiting to see my official results.......although there was a lady with a trolley bag loading it up with what ever was out on the tables!
