Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I'm sure a few people must use these, any thoughts? After about 45 minutes of winter riding, my toes are frozen and I'm wondering if these might be a solution? While we're there, what about merino socks? I'm prompted by some deals at PlanetX (lots of tubes going cheap, as well).

Last year I used plastic freezer bags over my socks. Made a big difference but there must be a better way...

I have those overshoes - do a decent job of keeping the worst of the cold out, but not the wet - and the PlanetX merino socks are my staple cycling sock.
Both excellent and the deals mean that you can get loads.

Vrap also uses Sealskinz socks which work mostly like a wetsuit sock - water gets in and warms ;)

I get very cold feet and in winter I wear merino socks, Sealskinz socks, my cycling shoes (a size too big) and then Neoprene overshoes on top. I think plastic bags tied just above my knees between the Sealskinz and the shoes might be a useful addition :)

Sealskinz plus planet x neoprene overshoes work well for me.

It's a question of getting your other layering right as well - tights, jacket, baselayers, gloves etc

I have tried all of the above texchniques and nothing works for my feet when it's really cold/wet other than heated motorbike liners that you can charge up and they last 6 hours. Plus the merino socks/winter boots plus overshoes. Normal cycling shoes definitely don't cut it, winter boots are quite a bit warmer
