dhb is a budget make marketed by wiggle. they produce some good stuff so the look ok. I've been riding 35 years and still find it amazing that shoes can cost a small mortgage.

shop around and get last year model at bargain prices.

just make sure that the sole is hard and firm, normally plastic and don't bend.

I was going to go for the DHB's on wiggle on recommendation but they don't have my size in stock at the moment. Is there any merit in looking at a women's specific road shoe? I've browsed around and found these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31708. Also any help on sizing?

They have the DHBs in my size - thinking about getting a pair and a set of SPD-M520s, both from Wiggle. They'll be going on an MTB for now, and then get moved to a road bike if/when I actually get one. Any thoughts before I click "Buy"? :)
