Top shopping, Pedro!
We changed a couple of years ago from a v expensive turkey from the butcher, to one from Morrisons. None of us could distinguish any difference in flavour, but my purse certainly felt the difference. I got over my guilt at not patronising the local shop quite quickly.;-)

Just eating my half cup of single-carrot soup.
(I am not. I am eating a massive bowl of spicy tomato, lentil, split pea and single-carrot soup.)

Thanks LD. Not the best deal I've ever had, that goes to the time I got over £360 worth of meat and cheese for nothing, in fact they paid me about a £5 for it because they'd reduced it but forgotten to cancel the bogof and offers off.

When Mrs D cooks I do the clearing up. When I cook I do the clearing up. It's a system that seems to work well.
Mrs D makes a lot of mess, uses loads of pots and utensils, doesn't put peelings or wrappers in the bin. I clear up as I go along, so clearing after myself isn't such a chore.

I grabbed a frozen turkey from Aldi rather randomly one evening thinking I might get a 'better' one but at least I had one in the freezer if all else failed. I didn't get another one - a good thing as the Aldi one was delicious!

My parents probably spent a small fortune buying a turkey plus sausages and bacon from my sister's local butcher. My BIL goes every week to get all of their meat. It's always lovely but I do wonder if they would know the difference if I slipped some supermarket meat into their meals.
I have given up on the genealogy idea for birthday as I don't have time to do all of the research before Friday morning when we leave to see him. I have instead bought a 3 month 'Friday night curry' subscription. He likes a curry and he likes to cook. It might take him out of his comfort zone of using the same recipe he has used since the '80s. Family tree might be a project for next Christmas or my Mum's birthday in May.

hp, researching the family tree is a long old business, I should start now if you're thinking of doing it for Dad's next birthday.
I always used to get a Butterball or ready basted frozen turkey and it was always very nice. I don't need to buy a turkey these days for only 1 person.
