It burned away the tops of the weeds between the paving stones, but didn't seem to kill the roots, as the weeds grew back soon afterwards. Bob Flowerdew recommends "drowning" weeds - put them in a bucket, cover with water, leave for several weeks. They go through a phase of smelling awful, of course; also the couch-grass seemed to be very good at simply growing out through the surface of the water.
