Ultrasound would detect a stress fracture, I think. So I have been told.
HP, I hope you get your boiler mended soon. I was without hot water for two weeks, but as from last night it's back on (though in the long run I've got to have some fairly major works done such as to involve the insurance company). Bliss to have a shower again.
