I haven't planted my onions yet! Nor my spuds... So my friend picked them up from the garden centre yesterday. Hoping for a clement day this weekend so I can plant them.

My garlic has been in since November, likewise some onions but they took a massive beating with the weather, so I need some more sets. Waiting a little longer for outside seeds as we still had a hard frost 2 days ago and the soil is cold.

My garlic went in in January. Much later than normal but at least it has had some frost to bulb up!

I have a lawn full of fritillaries at the point of flowering The reticulata irises I buried in another lawn last autumn didn't come to anything.

Are both lawns damp? Also reticulatas don't like competition from grass...

I planted 20 bare root shrubs today - a mix of dogwood, hazel and hawthorn, to form a native species hedge area. Also planted some sea buckthorn shrubs in a sunny area in front of some full grown birch and rowan trees - I like their fruit. Also put up the posts and wires for the raspberries planted a few weeks ago.

I love fritillaries. That snakes-head one is my favourite thing to see in a garden or indeed anywhere.
Cerrertonia - that sounds lovely. I helped to plant (slit method) the same mix to form a hedge at a local organic farm. I also harvested sea buckthorn at a wildlife trust garden where I used to volunteer - I love that plant too. Your garden must be large, no?

It's about an acre. About a quarter of it is a walled garden with a lot of nice plants, just needs some work to recover from a few years of neglect. The rest of it was pretty overgrown.

I shall post a photo when the fritillaries flower, which it looks as if they're preparing to do en masse The ones that have done best are in a really soggy lawn.
