Weed 1 is FMN. I quite like it as ground cover, and it comes up easily enough when you want it to.

I had Michealmas daisy 8n my head for "weed 2".

Hardening courgettes involves lots of running in and out in the mornings to put them out in the early morning sun, moving them into the shade later on, and evenings to put them under cover if it's going to be frosty!

That said I've stopped taking them in at night now. But they're running out of nutrients in the lord, I think, so are ready/need to go to their forever homes now.

Fragile Do Not Bend
I’ve never done that with courgettes (or anything else for that matter). I sowed mine a few days ago on the windowsill, they’ll be potted on into bigger pots in the greenhouse when big enough then planted outside in May sometime.

I’d say michaelmas daisy as weed 2 too.

Rosehip
I do similar to Frag with most things that need frost protection - until I run out of space and then they get planted out early with some sort of cloche at the ready just in case.

Everything is currently residing in my kitchen on a trolley by the door with a nice window to morning sun. It gets put out on warm days...then brought in overnight. Some need to be put into larger pots later this week until they go into their larger containers for proper growing in.

To add to the defence of forget me not, it is a great food source for early solitary bees. I encourage it, rather than removing it, but it doesn't do well here.

I suppose the aster / michaelmas daisy thing would act as ground cover to keep other weeds down, but will probably out compete any plants you actually want to grow. But it is definitely a good food source late in the summer for invertebrates, so definitely better than bare soil.
