Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The B&Q compost I ordered turns out to be 100% peat free.
I can hold my head up high again!

(The web site is missing a word from the description, obviously!)

Can i ask advice? I am very much a novice. I want to feed my houseplants - I normally give them a weekly dose of baby bio between now and September. I’ve run out and Tesco didn’t have any. I have plenty of tomorite from last year‘s tomatoes. Would it be OK to use on the houseplants does anyone know?

I would look at the list on ingredients on both types of feed but my gut reaction is that tomato feed is very specific and I wouldnt risk it.

It will be a bit high in potassium for foliage plants, they like more nitrogen. Might work well for flowering plants.

I'd go with not feeding for a few weeks.

This is what Dr Google says; Give flowering plants a generic house plant fertiliser every two weeks in spring, then change to a weekly feed that is rich in potassium in the run up to flowering. Tomato fertilisers contain extra potassium, but are often too strong for houseplants, so dilute by half the recommended dose

I just posted a long (too long?!) comment about NPK values but it got lost on the way.

Overall I pointed out that BabyBio is nitrogen rich and Tomorite is potassium rich so you might find your plants less bushy.

Bloody computer! Grrrr!

..... but there’s no reason not to use it if it’s all you’ve got.

My sweet pea and courgette seedlings are now sitting on the patio, acclimatising to an outside world. I shall bring them in later tonight, and repeat over a few days before I let them out to fend for themselves!
