Thanks for above. In the end I've used some ronseal fence life I had in on 2 of them rather than buy something else (then change mind about the colour)! Think they look OK, low VOC and safe to plants. Going to line them as well before planting up.

Leeks are ace.
Garlic. Onions. Broad Beans similar.
Peas not so odd that.
Cabbages, that nero stuff coming on. A bit of an experiment that.
Superb parsnip crop possible.
Courgettes took a battering in the frost while i was away...so 2 ok. The rest i will start again.
Toms peppers well maybe.
All in all considering the weather and how long I abandoned the garden. Not bad at all....

I've been chopping down a holly tree/bush in readiness for laying a base for my new super-duper 12' x 8' deluxe model shed (I kid ye not - "deluxe" is in the description!). Twice the size of the existing model, a need occasioned by the acquisition of many bulky electric and motorised gardening tools from my father in law's garage! (He's moved to a flat.)
Just to set your minds at rest, the only nest in my holly tree was a long abandoned nest belonging to a blackbird who didn't nest high enough or keep a sharp enough eye out and was subsequently fodder for next door's cat...
Unless you count the snail's "nests". Felt like one per leaf whilst I was taking the branches off. They've since been recycled in the green bin! Hopefully that'll reduce the depredations on my tender plants, at least for a while. (I suspect putting snails in the green bin is frowned upon too ;-))
There are multiple much more suitable nesting places for our feathered friends around the garden still!
However, I need to move the existing 8x6 shed - I shall be enlisting the help of 3 younger and hopefully stronger friends and family members! I suspect i shall find a residual rat corpse or two beneath it when it moves.

Are you having a "shed-off" with Stander?
I have to keep watering, especially all the fruit. This is ridiculous in May. Apparently, April was 26 dry days from 30. May is 10 from 11, I think (and the "rainy" day was barely a couple of showers).

Raining here. Which means my 3 days of watering was worthwhile.

!! Ok Marky..but just because a human views a "much more suitable nesting place", sadly that doesn't generally figure! Ideally the best philosophy is to chop and prune outside of the breeding season but of course we also have to do stuff when the time is right for us too, especially if building a shed and the like.

It sounds like there's a bit of a shed competition going on which I seemed to have just joined ;-).
I dismantled my 6'x 8' 25 years old shed (I'd looked after it so it was still in good condition) on Monday and the next day ordered a bespoke 12'x 9' thick walled one, which will come in 6-8 weeks. All I've got to do now is get a builder to lay the foundation - if ever I can find one who will answer the phone, ring me back or turn up for a booked appointment!

MrW put the cover on our polytunnel yesterday and this morning I spent a couple of hours planting out tomatoes and chillies. I think we have 24 tomatoes plants! Only three chilli plants tho. I foresee a lot of frozing chopped tomatoes over the summer.
I planted out the courgettes and squash plants I grew from seed yesterday. Rather dispiritingly, it looks like I only have 2 viable courgette plants & I had to buy replacement squash and a cucumber plants on Saturday. Two weeks ago I had 6 courgette plants and 4 squash all ready to go. Not entirely sure what went wrong but I think I got them going too early and they got very elongated so when I hardened them off they were very fragile. Next year I'll start them at the beginning of May and propagate them in the polytunnel.
