Svalbard looks great. Then I checked out the package price and decided to stick to Iceland.

(Ceratonia, it's held on the Svalbard/Spitsbergen islands, not on the ice itself. I think there was one on the Arctic Ocean ice-cover but I'm not sure if it's regular. There is also an Antarctic race which is MUCH colder but probably drier.)

There is a crazily expensive marathon held on the ice around the geographic north pole, in April. It's been organised annually for getting on for 20 years I believe. The antarctic marathon is on of the south sandwich islands I think, not on the mainland.

It seems that the Antarctica Marathon is held on one of the South Shetland Islands. However, the Antarctic Ice Marathon is held on the continent itself. icemarathon.com |

just back from 4 ultras & 1 marathon in 5 Days in Oregon, Washington & Idaho - was tough battling the poor weather due to so many local wild fires, Knocked off my 40th state for marathons, 13 state for ultras & 18th State for 5km
