Following recent news events and some Fetchie first hand experience, i wondered about putting an apple air tag in my suitcase when i go away, at least then i can see where it is, and then perhaps gauge its likely availability schedule.

Any downsides to this?

Ness
I have no experience of the tag you mentioned but did fly to Mallorca for a week at the beginning of this month. Mr Ness I flew with Tui from and to East Midlands Airport. There wasn’t any problems with luggage at all.

Just put 3kg of coke in your case lammo. That should get through the system with no problems. In fact, it may be monitored all the way..!

Only downside is if your luggage lands up in Australia and you're in America lol.

We were looking at putting NFC tags (same principle as the air tags) into boxes that we use to ship equipment around the world but as of yet we haven't had time to try them out other than on the desk using our phones.

um
lammo - only that you'll know where it is. Which isn't much help.
The web seems to say:-
- they are allowed since they only use bluetooth
- the CR2023 (non rechargeable) batteries are also OK

But they only work when stationary. So they'll tell you where your bag is sitting, but not give you a location as it leaves the plane and through the underground transit system. So you won't get a warning ping as the bag is about to arrive. Until you've pulled it off the conveyor belt.

And you risk losing £20 ... so luggage insurance is also needed.

The biggest thing I've learnt on bag tracking is lots of labels. Ideally airline or hotel frequent user cards. Every bag I've had 'recovered' has always had it's labels removed. Oh - and take a photo of it. Keep a record of make, model, colour etc etc.

Got something to say?
