Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Seems a bit unlikely but hey, I’m sure the charity benefitted.

Having been up and down most of the Norfolk coast, I'd say that's crap (and poor journalism for not even doing basic checks).

GPS isn't like a phone signal, it doesn't have areas of poor reception as lomng as you've got a good view of the sky. And Norfolk probably has some of the best views of the sky going.

Once your are not doing your run in the arctic/ antarctic/ in a tunnel/ London Docklands or similar city area with tall towers or a very, very dense forest then GPS signal is going to be fine, it doesn't have good and bad spots.

Now it can take a moment longer to find a signal if there is a lot of cloud cover or if you've not turned your watch on for ages or have travelled hundreds of miles in between last turning it on as you have to redownload the satellite position data.. but phones get around most of that by downloading the data over the mobile networks rather than from the satellites, and faking your position with some triangulation of telephone masts. Most GPS watches should now also get that data from your mobile phone as well so getting a GPS lock on your watch when travelling for a destination marathon shouldn't be an issue anymore with a panic at the start line with your arm held aloft in the vain hope it makes a difference.

Could be that she had the GPS turned off on her phone so it was just making do with the cell mast triangulation, but surely the VMLM app would have detected that setting being wrong and refused to work...wouldn't it?!?
