Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Pink flag sounded good when Elastica were intent on rewriting it in the 90s :-). I get where you're coming from now, not sure I'd listen to the whole thing through now either, although "Strange" is excellent (and quite unlike anything else on Pink Flag, and also miles better than REM's cover of it), their second and third lps are way better and have dated far better too. "French Film Blurred", "Outdoor Miner" (the single version with hokey piano solo which I love despite it being cheesy as a pack of wotsits), and "Map Ref 41n 93w" the latter which was a big influence on the shoegazers of the 1990s.

Wire and Gang of Four were as influential in a way as the Stooges and VU were on the generation before

Speaking of Elastica - I heard their ‘cover’ of the Stranglers today. Bloody good nod / pastiche / blatant rip-off

Actually listening to Pink Flag now, it's still got a spartan otherness and art-school archness I dig.

I like Elastica. I’ve always thought the start of Connection is a rip-off of the theme tune of Are You Being Served.

Elasticas first album ripped off at least a hundred songs :)
Still love it though and pop it on for a listen every now and again

Elastica was by no means the only band of the time mining seams of superior music - but I like 'em too!

I'm don't actually think it's a rip-off, it more of an unintended similarity

After watching the first minute or so, I was thinking maybe I was mistaken, but then I watched this...

Connection - that's the Trigger Happy TV theme isn't it?

I always got Elastica mixed up with Republica (but who in fairness were quite catchy but several shades of shit and a league or two below)

Elastica is the posh druggy bird who was with the lad from Blur innit
