You can still get 50% back I think by withdrawing before a certain date I can't be bothered to google.

Fenners, you didn't answer my question. You're on dodgy ground when you start questioning a person's honour my friend.

FR, I'm happier with that response - it's one of his better public utterance, but it's not exactly in agreement with my post.
I think he's taking the Boris Johnson approach to this crisis and being several weeks behind the curve. It's already obvious that this crisis is going to last for months not weeks, so although I agree he is making all the right noises (possibly BoJo style, to soften people up for bad news) now is the time to make the call. Anything less is irresponsible IMO. He likes the limelight of being the man in charge, but that also involves making the hard choices at the right time (which again seems a shared position with BJ).
I wonder ... has anyone ever Marc & Boris together in the same room?

Given I've never run the event or followed any of the previous years other than last I'm not in a position to slate Marc. I would say I'll happy enough with today's statement and would be happy to run under trained if in the unlikely chance it does go ahead this year.
I was never chasing a time or position anyway, it was more the challenge that enticed me after seeing the %age of 100 finishers . I'm In it for the challenge π
I wouldn't say its encouraging me to take the piss when it comes to training, I still plan to do something most days anyway within reason and generally I'm quieter areas where contact with walkers, cyclists etc.. is at a minimum!
Stay safe everyone!

STOOSH - ditto and I've read a few blogs or a crap e-book on ultras recently and the chap seemed to do a significant amount of cycling and get by. I've got a turbo now and I've started Zwifiting. I plan to move towards doing an hour easy hill reps (focus on engaging muscles than stressing CV system) in local woods before work.

Iβve never been a heavy trainer but I think it would be impossible for people to train properly for a 100 mile event following current government guidelines. Even training for the half would be very difficult, especially for anyone who doesnβt live in the Pennines, Lakes, Snowdonia etc. The quicker the organiser sees sense and knocks these events on the head for this year the better imo

Derby - I think I agree with you but think the cancellation/delay window isn't yet into late July. Centurion haven't spoken about WW50Km yet. The proms start on 17 July and aren't cancelled yet.
Regarding the training burden, I believe (from a position of not having done a 100 but I have done the Dragon's Back) that if you're fit enough to marathon you can ultra any distance. And the rest is all in the mind. *ducks and takes cover for incoming*

Tbh, not cancelling the race early gives runners something to focus on whilst covid is around whether able to train properly or not.
If it gets cancelled which there is a high chance then theres nothing lost by keeping yourself in reasonable shape.
The earlier they cancel the more chance I'll have to start doing all the jobs round the house I've been avoiding π

Can we cut the crap and trying to mud sling at each other.
Fenners - no need for your comment. There is no βclubβ; this is a place where everyone can share their opinion. Please just state yours and donβt snipe.
TBH They just need to make a decision. Not only because of the race itself but the fact that people will have more money and commitments in this than just the race - accommodation etc.
