Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Garmin Connect seems to take whatever format of file you upload and turn it into a FIT file when downloading back to the Garmin as a course. Unfortunately there seems to be some sort of bug in this conversion process unless the track/route was created by a Garmin product.

Of course, if anyone knows of other ways to get courses onto a new-ish Garmin without using Garmin Connect & Garmin Express then I'm all ears!!

I wasn't planning on doing the loop in Dalemain - hopefully on the day I'll be able to keep up and not get lost on that section :-)

[And the "only" was definitely tongue in cheek - it will be more than enough for me :-) ]

Reading back a few pages, re the expensive races, now ultras are in Mens Health etc it's an attractive thing for (often young) people with high disposable income to do and impress their friends on social media. So hence race and kit prices shoot up. I don't think I would ever choose to pay the silly prices of these more commercial ultras (not really aimed at Lakeland here btw), but fair enough if you can afford it. I would rather choose cheaper events and save the money for a decent holiday!

Some RDs pay their mates for helping out, while also recruiting lots of volunteers - free labour, or at least the cost is a bit of food and a t shirt / hoodie. Bit of a sharp practice in my view... but I'm old school in that I think you should be organising a race for the benefit of the sport, not to line your pocket.

Ian, no problem - enjoy your recce! I've no idea why I thought Aira Force was after Dalemain .. I guess that bit of the L100 goes on forever :)

I use gspies for transferring all routes to my 910. gspies works by transferring the route/course via my ant stick using the garmin communicator plugin. I can only get it to work using safari on my mac and not chrome though. (I think chrome blocks the plugin in some way I haven't fathomed yet.)

The 50 route is here:
gpsies.com

minus the Dalemain loop. On the old site there is then a drop down menu giving you various options on how you would like to export to garmin. You have to use the classic version of the site as the new version does not support the plugin.

Hope that makes sense!

Enjoy the recce, we're in the area running some of the course in reverse doing the LT110 :-/

Not for much longer though, the communicator plug-in is being discontinued :-(. Which means you'll be reduced to Garmin connect.

I hadn't come across gpsies before but I thought someone must have a way of downloading that doesn't involve Garmin software...
Looks very interesting - I'm having a play with it just now :-)
Enjoy the LT110 - that's a reasonably tough route just a few weeks before the L50 :-)

Flanker - I've got an old laptop running XP and older versions of Firefox and IE that I use for coping with out-of-date apps - I just need to remember not to do updates...

GPSies rocks. I've got most my routes on there, but it's a pain now that I can't download straight to the garmin (even on my old XP virtual machine) as GPSies has stopped supporting the communicator and removed the send-to-gamin option.)

I now have to save the file locally and copy onto the garmin manually (at least until I write a little app to do it for me)

I can still get gpsies to download straight to the garmin by switching to their 'classic' site - there's a little option at the top. Don't know how long the classic site will be around for :-(
