Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I actually have no problem with them making money from the event if they want to - people who enter it have the choice of whether they think it is good value or not. Compared to many of the big ultras, where they operate in far less challenging terrain with far less support and administration, I think it is reasonably priced.

However I seem to remember last year published a list of their donations which ran into the 10s of 1000s.

I don't have any problem with it either, if they didn't make money out it, well, I suppose it just wouldn't exist. What does irritate me is the intimation or suggestion that somehow or other part of your entry fee is going to a good cause/charity and that's absolutely not the case. The Lakeland 100/50 is beautifully executed and from a business point of view serves as a classic example of How to Do It properly. Bear in mind that I'm a miserable old sceptic please :-)

I think from a business point of view, they could make more money whacking an extra £20 or £30 on the entry fee. Not so great from the runners' point of view, but I suspect it'd still sell out.

Not too fussed about gels, but I did turn down soup at Langdale last year in favour of Haribo. More Haribo this year please!

I think Marc could double prices and still sell out in a short period of time. Compared to nearly every other equivalent, it is a steal :-)

Let's be honest if 000s of people spend £80 running around an industrial estate called Brighton, there is no comparison.

You reckon? I'm not sure. How much was the 100 entry .... £110 was it?

People spend £100s and £100s for tri-athlons!

Thames Path is I think £125? American races are multiple $100s

Lakeland 50/100 is cheap.

£90.

For comparison, ONER is £180 for an 82 miler.

LDWA 100 is a great event and I'm not sure of latest cost but I'd guess a fair bit cheaper than L100. Catering and general facilities are superb star
