I am totally proud of attempting 32 but I put it in inverted commas cos Lytham is doing 36 and we're both aiming for the very very tough 50 in the summer. Relative isn't it. I remember when I first ran 10 miles and I thought it was so very very far :-) No distance is crazy if you train and prepare enough. Need to keep my mind in the game and trust that the legs, no matter how slow, will hold out til the end

Looks like I have managed to finagle my work over Xmas so that I can do the Hardmoors 30. That'll be my first. Need to build fairly quickly from there to get to 50 by July though.

I remember running six miles and not being able to walk for two days :)

Smiley, I'm not doing any over distance stuff until after the Shakespeare marathon at the end of April. My plan is to get fast- marathon-fit and do some decent hill running when I can.

Heebie, thanks I've just realised I won't be doing over until after VLM, I had planned a 36 the week before but that was before I got a place in VLM!

I wouldn't worry about going over too early but I would get out into the hills if you can even if its just walking otherwise it'll take a while for your quads to forgive you

Good advice Anna. If I was ever so silly apart from general volume mileage I'd concentrate on offroad and as many hills as I could.

From personal experience going long on road isn't that helpful.

Thanks guys, doing an off road/hilly night run once a week at the moment and trying to get off road and up hills most weekends for at least 10km

Unless you're one of the super quicks it might be worth practising walking up hill at a brisk pace and honing your descent technique.
