Sorry MrsS, have to be truthful. For the L50 runners Fusedale will be like a furnace. Make sure you leave Howtown with plenty of liquid as it is a fair distance to Mardale Head.

I concur that it's a bad idea to change shoes after a good amount of time in them, I have a theory that your feet sort of mould to the shape and different dynamics can cause a lot of distress. I changed into road shoes at Newlands on my BGR and it was a huge mistake, my feet were in bits for the last 5 miles and it cost me time. Of course, there's nothing wrong (I suppose) with putting a fresh pair of the same shoe on if you have them.

I'm planning to wear my old x-talons to dalemain, and have a newer pair of identical shoes there in case the old ones have fallen apart. Feet are not my problem; we are just too slow over rough and steep ground.

I donβt think we can predict weather conditions a monthn N advance. It looks like itβll be dry the way things are at the moment, but anything could happen weather wise on the day. Last year was wet underfoot, however race conditions were brilliant, not raining, not too hot, just right.

For the 100, until Howtown, in 2017 The conditions underfoot were the wetness I've known in 'Summer'.

There will be weather. We'll be prepared for it π. I'm just getting my excuses in if it's boiling hot

Right now the fells are wonderfully dry but the roads are starting to melt! Just come through Skelwith Bridge and the road surface is rather tacky and starting to come away. Not a cloud in the sky all day and in just under 6 hours I got through 4 litres of fluid which is about 3x what I'd normally drink. Views are awesome though π

I'll be taking my shoes and socks off at every opportunity - basically Braithwaite, Dalemain & Kentmere. Getting 10 minutes fresh air to the feet afollowed by dry sockst feed stops lets them dry out and prevents a whole host of issues.

Wise plan, flanker. Good luck, hope you have a great run. You never know I might be out on the course depending on how the next few weeks go.

Ta. Don't think I'm in shape for a great run (unless that shape is round!) but I'll settle for an enjoyable one with a finish not to close to 40 hrs!
