If you're talking about the 50, the first 10k is really easy. That will build a great buffer to prevent any timeout issues.

Sorry, no, talking about the 100.
We were never bothered by the cut offs on the 50. Even the year when we hadn't done any training!

jacdaw, if anything on the 100 the cutoffs are your friend. Unless you're bombing round the course, staying just inside the cutoffs is a good pacing plan. As once at Braithwaite they will take care of themselves.

There is "staying just inside the cutoffs" and "staying *just* inside the cutoffs".

jacdaw, if you can get to Braithwaite, in good shape, and leave the checkpoint after a decent break you will smash it. If you get to Braithwaite really struggling..........well you can guess.

I took my shoes off on the Lairig Mor (85 miles in to a 95 mile race) and let's just say there were tears trying to get them on again... I would always recommend not taking your shoes off during an ultra.

Changing socks at Dalemain if the conditions are wet, is probably a good idea.
Although this year looks like it will be drought, dry, conditions.

I hope it's not too hot. I've had heatstroke a few times.
