NE, I do the whole thing in talons, previously 212s but these days 200s.
I've also employed your logic of the second half being both less technical and less boggy and changed to more cushioned shoes at Dalemain. It's never seems to have worked - I think after 60-odd wet miles in one type of shoe your damp foot has moulded to a certain shape. Changing shoe type then put pressure on in different areas and can cause problems.
I have a second pair of 200s in my drop bag.
I think more important than changing shoes is airing feet and changing socks. At the major hot food stops (Braithwaite, Dalemain, Kentmere) I'll dry and air my feet for 10 minutes and put on clean socks. I think this makes a huge difference.

Good advice there. I agree that your foot does mould to the properties of certain shoes after a given amount of time in them, I found this on my BGR. Feet were fine until I came off the fell, then I put on a pair of road shoes and was in agony. Thanks for reminding me of this!
Also wise advice re. airing feet and dry socks, you're dead right. If I'd done this on the UTMB in 2014 (and had a dry pair of shoes) I might have hung on to a few more of my toenails
Food for thought

Hi everyone
Remembered to set the alarm this year and took the plunge and got lucky - or not! I'm in the 100 for 2018 and excited about the challenge that lays ahead. Lots of research to do and reports to read as I've not run in the Lakes before, barely walked or hiked and can hardly recall where I have been other than in Wasdale and up Scaffel Pike a few years ago!
Would be grateful of any recommendations for specific sections that should be reccied.
I definitely echo Flankers comments about drying and airing feet tho as this was something I found invaluable during Dragons Back earlier this year.

Seathwaite to Braithwaite is probably worth a look for a recce - I missed a couple of turnings on leg 2 one year, and the other bit (Wasdale Head to Braithwaite) is probably in the dark for most mortals Has a couple more bits that are easy to get wrong if you're not concentrating.

I'm happy and raring to go but since I have a knee injury shanksi and I will be walking the whole thing now. I suspect we may need most of the 24 hours though! I'm looking forward to seeing folk š. How's everyone else?

Still trying to decide if team jacdaw is quick enough to beat the first few cut-offs. If we decide we aren't we may be repeating our dns from 2016.
