Actually, she did take a pair of Torrents for a test drive. The sole looks much harder wearing than the Challengers and more amenable to very rough courses, however she thought that the forefoot cushioning on them was much firmer and not as comfortable; this is important because she is a genuine forefoot striker, I can't tell you how many pairs of fell shoes I've had to chuck away with flattened forefoot studdage and no visible wear to the rear :-) You're right that there is a lot of visible midsole on the Challengers but it doesn't seem to have been a major problem, it's actually the treads on the sole that have come unstuck in this case.

FF, I reckon that distance over any terrain would result in sore feet.

I’ve been giving next year thought for some time. Thoughts have been on a crack at the 100. Having seen the state of some runners coming through at various stages, plus the prospect of 2 nights out, I’m 90% certain that I’ll be trying to enter the 50 come the beginning of September. I think after last years walk I’m in with a reasonable chance of a sub 10 if I nail the training.

However that decision is subject to me changing my mind. Then If I set a decent 50 time who knows.

NE - I'm finding the same, they are not as spongy - hoping it'll break down a little after a few more miles.

I’m getting more and more interested in next year’s hundred. The fact my boss (bosses’ boss in effect - the MD of a £80M+ turnover business) is up for the fifty might possibly be colouring my thinking ;)

Dave, I am certain that a sub-10 50 is within you.

Despite two nights with no sleep, I still wasn't tired enough to sleep through the pain in my feet last night :-(

And my quads are telling me that attempting the 100 on almost zero hill/fell training is not a good idea :-o

Despite all that, I genuinely enjoyed most of my adventure. When I finished, the marshal giving out the medals questioned which distance I'd done because I looked so cheerful. Proper love the Lakeland 100 :-)
