The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
Susie - for treble stitch you miss the first stitch next to your turning chain when you start a new row and then finish the row by putting a stitch into the top of the previous row's turning chain. With bigger stitches you do get a bit of a hole at the beginning of the row but it's not so noticeable with smaller stitches. That should even up your edges.
Cyclops - was your blanket wavey at the edges as you did your rows? I'm four rows in and there's definitely going to be uneven edges the way I'm doing it.
This is the 4th thing I've rippled - 2 big blankets, 1 small one and a cushion back. I'm not sure what the pattern says but I counted very carefully at the ends of the rows - 4 trebles in the pattern then 2 more on both rows to allow for the decreases. Have you got a close up photo Wobbling? I am a bit hopeless getting straight edges Drell and Wobbling - sometimes they have a bit of a wobble and I even them out with the border but that's my secret.
well done on the trebles Susie. This is quite a good video showing different ways to turn on trebles (the vid talks about doubles as a US double is a UK treble!!). I think the last one gives a really good result but haven't actually tried it myself!!
Yes you can either treat the turning chain as the first stitch or ignore it, but it changes where you put the first and last treble. Mostly the pattern will tell you to treat as first stitch.
If you're making a blanket the edging would hide it, or for a garment the seam would.
That's really helpful thanks everyone. I need more practise at making sure I'm crocheting into the right stitch I think. I think the stitch holders will help out there - at least to start with until I can see for sure without them.
I'm going to do a scarf and then sew the ends together to make a continuous loop so that could well hide any little mistakes I make along the way
I've managed to successfully complete my 335 foundation chain followed by the foundation row for my Granny Stripe blanket. It took me two attempts and in the end I had to change to a lighter wool as I was struggling to see the stitches. I'm so happy and proud *beginner face*
