Just how does anyone do freestyle swimming?? Tips needed

KonaKing Apr 2012 9:57pm, 10 Apr 2012 1,674 posts	0 KonaKing For many years I was a poor swimmer with an ungainly, inelegant and inefficient style so what I did was very simply to analyse my own stroke and to watch other people who were better than me and basically to copy what they were doing. It worked .... up to a point. I'm still not a fantastic swimmer but I'm streets ahead of where I used to be. Awareness, that's what helped me.
Just Matt Apr 2012 9:59pm, 10 Apr 2012 1,105 posts	0 Just Matt I second the lessons. I tried, I youtubed, I tried again. I went to 2 coaching sessions and now I can. Its not pretty nut its getting there. Without the coaching then I think I would have given up and stuck with breaststroke.

Nothing made a difference. Then, after trying and trying for ages suddenly it clicked. It seems that all that effort hadn't been getting me nowhere but it hadn't quite got me to where I needed to be. And when it did it was like someone flicked a switch and it just happened. Of course, then I needed to practice more and I'm sure I'm still no great shakes but I can do a decent freestyle now. Stick with it, mate.

MudMeanderer Apr 2012 10:51am, 11 Apr 2012 527 posts	0 MudMeanderer I made a huge leap when I went back and played with my technique, based on the drills in the Total Immersion book. It takes a while but when it clicks suddenly crawl becomes a very easy stroke.
