Is it just me or is there a distinct lack of long races in the build up to Autumn marathons?

I'd like a 30k or 20 mile road race to use as a training run for a bit of variety in my training for Munich in October, but all there is round here is the Belper Rugby Rover 30k, which is stupidly hilly and involves stiles and similar nonsense. It is not good training for a flat road marathon and certainly wouldn't lend itself to a well paced effort. Anyone know of any 30k or 20 mile races in July, August or September?

I suppose I could use a half marathon with a long warm up...

frustratingly there generally aren't any in autumn build-up. i think the only option is tacking miles on to halves or i know of people entering other fm's and stopping at 20m. but unfort race organisers obv assume London is the only mara people train for!!

There's the 5-4-3-2-1 I suppose, but that's a very, very long way away from me. The same day there's a new marathon near me that is 9 laps, I could feasible run 7 laps of that. But it has 4 stiles per lap, which would hardly help a marathon pace effort.

I always do Belper CC2, it builds stamina which is important :) What autumn marathon are you doing?

Munich. I've done Belper before and I really don't think it helped at all, unless making my injury worse counts as 'helping'. I'm looking for something along the lines of the Stamford Striders 30k or the Ashby 20 where I can do a significant chunk at MP. Even a local HM would do, but I can't find one on a suitable weekend.

Belper is a fun race. I did it last year.

I can recommend plenty of good long fell races to do for an autumn marathon build-up...

Fozzy, you're a fell runner and you know it. I, however, am a road runner. I'm not saying I definitively won't do Belper, but that's not the point of this thread. I need a long ROAD race for pacing practice without road crossings (or stiles!) to ruin the flow.

I agree. They all seem to be towards a spring marathon... I ran 2 marathons, a 20 mile race and a 15 mile race before VLM (although that wasn't my target race just an 'experience')

I think there should be more long distance races in general, Halfs and 10ks seem to be the favourites.
