Is it just me or is there a distinct lack of long races in the build up to Autumn marathons?

Good one, Miss C. It's a little late for me but it might suit someone getting ready for New York.

What about some of the LDWA events - they do various distances and I've seen runners at those

LDWA events do have 20 milers but from my experience of trying to navigate according to their instructions they can end up being closer to marathon distance. There are quite a few trail events of 20 miles in the autumn but slim pickings in terms of road races. I don't know if Autumn Tempest is on this year - that was what Liliaicha was meaning I think?

CC2 - there's an Autumn one as well - I did it in preparation for Abingdon last year, although I don't see it on the ETL website list of events. May be you could email them and ask them if there is going to be an Autumn one this year. It was a pretty popular event in 2011.

Miss C - that one is too late for me, my marathon is 14th October. Shame. Although it would have been quite a trek anyway. Liliaicha - they have the date out for their March 2013 event so surely they'd have already published the date for an autumn one if there was going to be one? Mick - I can't find any HMs near me in August or September other than the Robin Hood and I can't do that one as I have to work in the Retail tent there. I did see one or two that weren't too far away on 16th September, but I'm running the GNR as an all out race attempt that weekend. |

Oh, should mention I don't want a self navigated one, this needs to be a paced effort where I don't need to stop to navigate road crossings, let alone maps.
