The Hanne Wilhelmson series by Anne Holt. As Hanne is in Oslo PD like Harry Hole (Jo Nesbo) I often wonder if they know each other.
The Rebekka Martenson series by Asa Larsson (No relation to Stieg) set in Northern Sweden.
The Department Q series set in Copenhagen by Jussi Adler-Olsen.

to be clear this is by nationality of author? (Conrad was born Polish) not by country in which set? (even if they lived there for many years without changing nationality) or language in which written? oh, and OP says translated into English but then lists Roddy Doyle - did he write that one in Gaelic? are we precluding all books written in English?

Daz For me
Its country the author was born and has generally lived in the country ( not moved to anther country when they were 5 or 50 ) For some countries the main language is English. My parents were Irish and their main language was English though did learn the Irish language at school
I'm only reading books in English so some will be translated

If you like Fantasy, I can recommend the "Night Watch" series by Sergi Lukyanenko.
I've just bought the final 2 books in the series, but it's so long since I read the first 4, I'm re-reading them. Currently just finishing 'The Night Watch'
The others are 'The Day Watch,' 'The Twilight Watch,' 'The last watch,' 'The New Watch' and 'The sixth watch'

I might include a few authors that moved country in the middle of their lives
e.g. dissidents, refugees, migrants etc whose writing can tell of the country they left behind or the immigrant experience in the new country see if you can spot some such in my list which will come soon... ;o)
