Here's a better list from me. Ones I've read and by no means a list of the best books from each country. I can't remember all of the Scandinoir ones - I think there was one from Iceland. Quite a few of the ones below are by people who moved to the UK or US but are originally from the countries named.

Argentina - The Oxford Murders, Guillermo Martinez
Australia - The Slap, Christos Tsiolkas
Canada - All Our Wrong Todays, Elan Mastai
Cameroon - Behold the Dreamers, Imbolo Mbue
China - A Chinese Life, Li Kunwu

Dominican Republic - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Diaz
El Salvador - Three Daughters, Consuelo Saah Baehr
France - HHhH, Laurent Binet
Germany - Alone in Berlin, Hans Fallada
Ghana - Homegoing, Yaa Gyasi
India - The White Tiger, Aravind Adiga
Ireland - The Gathering, Ann Enright
Italy - My Brilliant Friend, Elena Ferrante
Jamaica - A Brief History of Seven Killings, Marlon James
Japan - Six Four, Hideo Yokoyama
Malaysia - The Garden of Evening Mists, Tan Twan Eng
Netherlands - The Dinner, Herman Koch
Nigeria - Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Norway - The Bat, Jo Nesbo
Russia - Roadside Picnic, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
South Africa - Ten Days, Gillian Slovo
Spain - The House, Paco Roca
Sweden - The Man from Beijing, Henning Mankell
Switzerland - The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, Joel Dicker
Ukraine - Suite française, Irène Némirovsky

That would have been good, especially if it had a function to tell you where authors were from.

Do we really need another book thread?

Well I'm starting one anyway. It may be a solo thread...
