Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Oops. I always draw the line for lsrs if its below freezing. Training is one thing, making yourself poorly is another.

Its never too cold. Given that there is an Antarctic Marathon, I don't think we need to worry here in the UK!

Being too cold to want to leave the front door is a completely different matter of course.

I'd suggest it's difficult to generalise. Each runner's state of health, on the day and historically, must be taken into account, so a cold. cough or tight chest would suggest making it a rest day.

Those who run in extreme conditions must train to be able to do so - most GB residents will not have the need or indeed the weather to do so for 90% of the year.

Finland used to produce lots of distance athletes who would have had to train in colder temperatures than we are currently experiencing. But I can understand why some people wouldn't want to run right now.

I heard somewhere that Nordic skiers tend to suffer from asthma, which is why I would rather not risk it. Plus cold weather does tend to exacerbate any pre-existing lung conditions. which is why I prefer not to do it. Call me risk averse. Or a softy. I can handle it. :-p
