Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The wheels things were the single worst thing of all three books.

My wife agrees with you, OS. I tried to turn a blind eye to them while reading. Not sure how easy that will be while watching the show.

I thought he's having a laugh, couldn't dream up weird animals and or ran out of ideas. The idea of the books WAS NOT to dream up weird animals.

Oh yes. I thought McEvoy was doing a fine job of an impression of an English Army officer, in the style of Michael Caine in Zulu. He kept making me smirk.

I liked the Angel taking off though.

The effects for the wheelie creatures look good actually:

I'm not a great one with symbolism etc, but I got the impression that the mulefa were deliberately definitely not a parallel with anything on earth (unlike most of the other creatures and concepts in the books) to make their behaviours (which are so very "human", from the farming of other animals and their use of technology) both familiar and unusual. So whilst they are "weird" they do serve a purpose.

But I could be wildly wrong - much of the overall symbolism of the books went way over my head, so I just relaxed into enjoying the story!

I got nowhere near that deep. I simply thought he was scraping the barrel with the mulefa, the whole part of story went a bit off track for me there. Mind you, the same happens with TBOD vol II methinks. Hopefully vol III is a bit more tuned-in.

One thing is for sure, they are a weird creation. But then the whole of the Amber Spyglass was a bit of a blur for me!

Apart from the fact that Mulefa had families, sat about, worked, talked and ate stuff like we do. So, 99.9999% the same.
