Fling was my first ultra with drop bags, had only done Glenmore before that where it's much easier to decide what you fancy as the race wears on.
I found I got a bit fed up with eating what I thought I would want as the race wore on, was happy for the water as I found it quite warm.
I feel much better placed now to tackle the distance next time.
The FB group is a good laugh, I do worry about how under prepared some folk are for this race. Some of the questions at this stage are alarming.
Looking forward to seeing how the race goes, some good competition looking at the preview. Hope everyone has a great day out.

I'm planning on using the drop bags mainly for checking how things work ahead of the whw race! Given I'll be using the fling as a training run I can dabble a bit..
Should be a good day and hope to enjoy it as I did last time out..

I agree Steven, it's scary to see some of the stupid questions and they unprepared. But hey ho.
Really good field this year, I will be in Majorca hoping we have wifi to keep track 😄

I'm totally unprepared I know (roughly) where the start is and how long it is. I'm not even sure when it starts, other than early.
I'll start thinking about it on Tuesday once I've recovered from London and being another year older.
Maybe I should go and join the FB group!

Just looking at the race splits from previous years, in general, the large proportion of runners really over cook the first section.

as per every other ultra. The number of times we've literally been last around 10-15 miles and yet finish well into the top half is crazy.
On the plus side, it's a great mental lift to be able to constantly pick people off when you're staring to feel it a bit

I think the course lends itself to this as well, to Rowardennan it's fairly easy going so the first half can be fairly quick. The lochside really slows you down and the combination of starting to tire at this point can make progress slow. I was 4:33 to Rowardennan which was probably too quick for my level of fitness at the time, I reckon closer to 5 hours would have saw me closer to 10:30 rather than my 10:53. Inversnaid onwards was a struggle but I knew once I got to Beinglas I could get the job done.

Probably as much use as a chocolate teapot, but, I really like the weather forecast for next Saturday on weather.co.uk
