Another +1 for the polar optical tech on your arm. Bullet proof, as accurate as a fully working chest strap (for exercise purposes, certainly), easy to use, reliable, comfortable. With this available I can't see any reason (other than the ability to properly sense and record HRV) to put chest straps on some hypothetical pedestal these days.

larkim, for tracking heart rate variability, chest straps are still the best, apparently.

They are also still more responsive AFAIK.

Also the battery lasts about a year so no recharging.

What have the chest straps ever done for us? ;-)

Did a workout today and noticed that I was getting no HR at the end of reps (which auto laps due to settings). Looking back on the HR graph, it's clear it happened on every auto lap until I switched from bluetooth to ANT+ and then it didn't happen going into the last rep or at the end of the last rep. Not really sure why it should be a bluetooth thing but I've always used ANT+ previously and only used bluetooth with the Verity as the first time I used it was the basketball session when the watch was in a bag.

I expect CW will suggest a chest strap ;-)

Fairly clear to see the reps and the walk sections help highlight them as I have a short walk before the start and after the end of each rep.

I've just noticed the verity sense is quoted at 30 hours now (due to a firmware upgrade according to 5krunner)

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
