Good going, El Bee. 29 miles in two days. I've only ever managed that on a marathon weekend :-)

Good one today, bearing in mind this is only the second day of trying to run at 70%- I'm possibly lost a little fitness over the festive period, resting hr was bout 53-55 so have worked out that 145 is ceiling level, and I've been aware that the first 10mins or so my hr goes very high and then tapers to a level, so I done a warm up involving bursts then jogs from lampost to lampost for about 1 mile, then tried like hell to run at a balanced 145hr, which was not easy on quite an undulating course, downhill dropped to 135 so had to up the pace then drop it on this hills........anyway at some point this bugger with two bags of messages sprinted past me while going for a bus!! ..but hey I kept at it... 8 weeks you say!!

Nice one size 10
Yes - about 8 weeks of consistent running regularly - and you will start to notice a big difference.
I also run undulations, and so pace tends to vary as can be seen in my splits!

Size 10,

Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to but I think of recovery ceiling runs as different ones where I control HR not pace, I live in quite a hilly area so it takes some getting used to. You are doing very well though, keep it up! :-)

Okay, so it got a bit easier today, but surely 11min miles (in my case) is damned frustrating!
Does anyone else go this slow?
I'm hoping for a sub 4hr marathon, but predictions at this pace are coming in at 5.30hr, which is quite worrying at this stage!!

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
