I suspect it is, and I think I show a similar kind of distribution, but I'd rely on the more experienced guys in this area t confirm. I think I need to do the Hadd tests as the MAFF test is proving not fine-grained enough.

Interestingly enough MAF shows that the half very definitely did damage my aerobic fitness it seems,
it was 8.17 3 days before the 1.29.51 half , then 8.29 4 days after and then 8.24 a week later...

Also interesting that my HR and MAF stats are "inferior" to many of the others posted but my pbs are better than many (not talking about Gobi here obviously!!!!) -and my conversion rate from 5k to half is very, very good (last year 5k 19.28 - half 1.29.00 in fact my 5k time should be about 19.21 for 1.29.00), yet from half to mara I'm pretty rubbish.

Ok HR drift can be at different points due to where you are most efficient.

Chris - I won't scare you with my conversion from 5km to half stats then :¬)

Ok interesting "most efficient" - what defines that? Where you train at most? Or genetics? Or you training history? How easy is that to alter?

1) You, informed by your HR stats; 2) Unlikely, efficiency often higher at faster paces; 3) No doubt to some extent; 4) Partly; 5) Quite, if you're willing to to do 50+ miles per week. ;)

I am doing about 50 miles a week at the mo :-) only 3 times in the last 6 weeks have I been faster than 8.30 pace (80% HR), and this last week been dragging it down to 76-77% will get to under 75% soon I'm sure.

Good question - how do you measure them, is that stored by Garmin in the HRM stats or do I need something extra?

They're on your Fetch log. Final column on the right before the Trash bin.

Mine are low and efficient as they were when I ran 100 miles a week. Bike looks after the engine so as long as I do "ENOUGH" running it seems my efficiency is good.

I had fitness testing and the fact was I got more efficient around MP than I was at 8mm.

I haven't been uploading my stats to Fetch log, just to Garmin Connect, either upload it to Fetch log (would that duplicate already recorded runs?) or calculate manually from Garmin Connect (unless it's hidden somewhere in there already)?

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
