Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Not this time Dill, I've followed that since 2009 and feel its time for a change. I am planning a Jack Daniels plan this time which if I am honest scares me and there is still time to revert back to what I know.

In the two weeks before the plan starts I plan to chuck in a jack daniels type session and see how I cope with those. If they seem fine then I will sick with it, but if I don't fancy it I will either go with P&D or consider a HADD type approach just nudging the SUB LT ceiling upwards until I get to MP type runs.

Bazo- Like your last description of Hadd type approach for a marathon. `MP type` remains part of the mysteriousness - the unknowable whether or not I could keep this pace up for the full MF Mara or not!

Found a frosty field of grass recently and somewhat spontaneously belted round it for a bit. Was 10 mins at lower zone A/88-90% HRmax as turned out. Quite fun thinking whether this was 5kp or 10kp and whether that meant I had no chance of getting this pace for MP this lead up, or whether my MP type pace was more upper zone C/lower B. Anyway, several months to test that one out. I think I`ll aim to do a more thorough test of this cycle`s MP possibilities in 6 weeks or so.

Gluco I couldn't hold 88-90% MHR for a marathon because I don't have the conditioning.

How many miles have you done in the last few or even five years?

I think Hunts has it right, its all about conditioning and knowing your body. When I first started out I had no idea what MP was or felt like or if I could hold it. In fact even now although I kind of know how it feels and can still judge it, I find myself standing on the start line really questioning if I am capable of holding that pace. Its something I think that comes with experience and learning, in my case from mistakes,

Hunts- I`m thinking lower zone B as MP for early May, as most likely. I hope to build on mileage success from last few months. Running everyday is what my heart and mind want.

We all know great days though, when you just turn up and do that race - and lo, a total pb smasher turns up. That`s what I think Hadd can probably do for you. You get into that pacing mentality that offers plus points on days when you almost accidentally let loose on your event.

my heart rate settles at about 154 in a marathon, which is 90%. But that is only up to about mile 16, when it starts to creep up. By the end it gets up to about 168, which is what I would see at the end of a 5k also. Not sure what would happen if I limited myself to 154 for the whole marathon, maybe try it one day.

oh dear, dilemma time. Tonights Sub LT saw a 9 second per mile improvement for the same effort as Tuesday and based on what I saw before the lurgy struck I reckon I can expect to see this continue. However, my plan was to drop the SUB LT for the next 2 weeks and trial a few JD sessions before I decide if I commit to the plan. However, I am now reluctant to drop my Sub Lts....

I see HADD as more of a base building approach from which I then turn to a more traditional plan for the 12 week marathon prep. That said I know others on here have used HADD as their marathon plan, or have modified it with influences of other plans such as P&D.
