Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

SB - fully agreed, and I presume that is why it is changing (unless of course Manchester City Council have finally decided they'll let the marathon use their roads :-0)

Conversation from Facebook:-
Feedback - "My only minor concern is I wonder whether the event is becoming a little bit of a victim of it's own success/growth in numbers? The course is now IMO a little narrow in places for the number of runners (particularly around the pace groups), especially the out & back to the Imperial War museum (given it's so early in the race), running up the pedestrian area next to the canal in Sale (due to the bollards) and on Stockport Rd coming away from Brooklands."
GMM Response - "thanks for that, all this will be changed next year - watch this space"

I was wondering if the city wanted to get a look in, but yes I can see this going from strength to strength - I'm also tempted to write to Liverpool city council and say *look this is what you could have had*

The NW would have had 3 cracking road marathons imo - Manchester - Liverpool - Chester.

I filled in survey and added very similar comments. For instance the water station in Sale is probably at the narrowest section of the whole course when there is a lay by 30 meters further on they could use. Although not keen they might need to stagger the start - even if min or two to thin out from then. I was surprised how congested it was but it did not take anything away from me at all.
My wife thinks i am bonkers to go with Chester but the ideal of focus of training latter summer appeals. Will probably ease off a little and do few short races for month or so- parkruns with my kids etc then look and see what is on horizon. Have done Chester half couple of times and think that it is an excellently organised event.

Yup and it's the same ppl that do the full Spanners.

I've met them at promotional things cos of them choosing us as their charity.

Great guys and really care about the runners experience.

I agree with the points being made re GMM course but don't want them to change it too much as I have a point to prove lol.

Does anyone know what the numbers were four years ago and what they are now? It will be interesting to see how it develops next year. You certainly needed your wits about you with the numbers this year but I'm still a fan :-)

TBH honest I found the course fine - congestion is to be expected at the start and for a fair few miles - the face planting incidents infortunate -but I can see pens actually being in place if numbers increase.
