and what about " two weeks next Wednesday" which is a classic from my mum? I've given up and insist on dates to be given when she tries to tell me what appointments she needs me to taxi her to. |

This Sunday: 13/4 Next Sunday: 20/4 This Tuesday: 15/4 (unless clearly talking past tense) Next Tuesday: 22/4 Two weeks next Wednesday - this would be the date that would be in two weeks on the date of next Wednesday: Next Wednesday: 16/4 Two weeks next Wednesday: 30/4 Sidebar: This Wednesday doesn't currently exist, it's renamed today. Pity poor German where you can't distinguish between the next town (in your direction of travel) and the nearest town (which might be behind you).

If I were explaining my interpretation of this/next day of the week, I’d suggest that we’re simply in the habit of dropping the word “week’s”. This Wednesday = This week’s Wednesday. Next Wednesday = Next week’s Wednesday. |
